Has a Traumatic Brain Injury Changed Your Life

Traumatic brain injuries after car crashes cause a wide range of health and financial problems.

Author: Rosenberg & Gluck, LLP

After a 13 year struggle with a traumatic brain injury, 31-year-old Bryan Drumm passed away in his sleep.  Bryan was a friendly, conscientiousness, hard-working and well-liked young man with many friends.  He held down two jobs but always had time for friends, family, and school.

On April 15, 2000 Bryan’s life and the life of his family changed forever.  Some friends called early in the morning, concerned they had had too much to drink and asked Bryan if he could give them a ride home.  On the return drive, Bryan’s car went off the road and crashed into a tree—and many hours passed before the crashed vehicle with the three injured teenagers inside was discovered. Bryan sustained a traumatic brain injury that night.

After the wreck, Bryan’s parents shared caregiver duties, but Bryan’s mom, Terri took on his care full force.  They converted the family’s recreation room into a space for Bryan, with a shower, sitting area and sleeping area.  Terri fed, clothed, bathed, and provided at-home physical therapy for her son in addition to taking him for doctor visits and seeing any other needs that Bryan had.

Having worked fulltime before her son’s accident, Terri ultimately gave up her job to stay home and care for her son—and eventually became a certified nursing assistant.  Bryan’s struggle is over but you can’t help but wonder how life would have been different for him and his family if he’d not gone out on that rainy night.
