What Are the 3 Types of Personal Injury Damages?
There are three types of personal injury damages: general, special, and punitive
General Damages are non-economic damages that are not easily calculated.
These are intended to compensate the victim for harms that cannot easily be assigned a monetary value. Examples include compensation for: pain and suffering, emotional distress, loss of enjoyment of life, disfigurement, and more.
Special Damages are economic damages that are damages that are easily calculable. They are intended to compensate the victim for losses that have a specific monetary value. They can include compensation for lost wages, medical expenses, rehabilitation costs, out-of-pocket expenses, and more.
Punitive Damages are given in cases where extreme recklessness caused injury. These damages are far less common in personal injury lawsuits than general or special damages.
